EMPLOYMENT
How will epilepsy affect my employment?
Normally there is no reason why a person with epilepsy cannot work. However certain jobs will not be open to you. These include jobs such as the armed forces, nursing (unless you have been free of seizures for 3 years) and jobs involving heights or heavy machinery.
Some people find it difficult to find work. This is usually because the employer does not understand epilepsy. The Stafford and District Epilepsy Support Group is always willing to help in such circumstances, and will happily explain to your colleagues and employers how to manage with your condition.
People with epilepsy work hard and have very little time off work through sickness.
If you want special help in finding a job then you can contact the Disabled Resettlement Officer at your job centre. If you are already working and you or your company wants advice, please contact us and we will help in any way we can.
